ST.
George's Elementary Has the Right, But Not the
Obligation, to Monitor and Supervise All Computer Use
Computer
Use Guidelines
In
conjunction with the school Administration and the school's
Technology Committee, the Network Administrator shall:

grant
user accounts (at no cost to students) which will
allow access to the network,
-
provide
teacher supervision of students using the network,
-
allow
use of specific computer applications as decided by the
school,
-
monitor
the internet sites being used and visited,
-
monitor
random samples of internal and external e-mail, and
-
revoke
user accounts, when and if necessary
Student
Responsibilites
The
computer network at St. George's Elementary exists to be used
for educational purposes only ~ and is a privilege rather
than a requirement of learning in this school. Students
are required to follow these guidelines in order to keep this
privilege:
A.
Care of Equipment
Computers
are expensive and fragile pieces of equipment. Extreme care
must be taken to ensure that they are not damaged.
B.
Appropriate Sites
-
searching
and browsing shall be limited to appropriate educational
sites.

students
shall not access or attempt to access sites containing prohibited
information (ie. pornographic, racist, vulgar, or otherwise
offensive material).

if
prohibited site is accessed accidentally, a student must
notify the teacher or Network Administrator immediately.

students
who access, or attempt to access, sites containing prohibited
information will have privileges revoked and may face other
disciplinary action.
C.
Copyright
Accessing
or storage of copyrighted software or information for which
the school does not have a license is forbidden.
D.
Security
-
Students
are responsible for their own accounts. System security
relies on maintaining the secrecy of the users' passwords.
If passwords are known by others, students must notify the
Network Administrator and change their current password.

Use
of the account by anyone other than the registered account
owner is prohibited. if this occurs both parties will have
their computer privileges suspended.

Students
shall ensure that their accounts are used for lawful purposes
only, and that no material is transmitted which is inappropriate
or infringes on the rights of privacy.

Students
should never post personal information about themselves
(address, phone number, or picture, etc.)
-
Computer
users must LOG OFF their network accounts before leaving
a computer.

Accessing
or attempting to access any computer, network or resource
for which a student DOES NOT have authorization is strictly
prohibited and will lead to immediate and permanent revocation
of computer privileges.
E.
Language
-
Language
used in e-mail is to be of the same standard as other forms
of communication; profane, harassing or otherwise inappropriate
language is forbidden.

Harassment
of other users in any way is forbidden.
-
Use
of anonymous e-mail sites or any other method of disguising
sources of e-mail is forbidden. In accordance with direction
from the Avalon East School Board, St. George's Elementary
has established a computer network linked to the Internet
for the enrichment of learning. The school has also developed
guidelines for the acceptable use of this network by students.
